Applications now closed!!!

After taking a quick poll of those in the hunt already and extending the number of slots to 160, we are now closing applications as the deadline I had set has now passed. Thank you everyone for taking part in this hunt, all shops should be listed here on the blog now and every vendor should have received a welcome packet (folder)! If you see your shop listed and did not get the invite to the group or the welcome folder please IM me. I will be double checking group membership (of at least one name listed on the application) for each shop over the next few days. After i get some sleep I will do up a new sign to send out as well as a note card version of the hunt order!

I will be checking landmarks and that every shop has a sign out and starting work on getting the hunt objects loaded for everyone. I will also be posting both here and to group notices a list of guidelines for all of our vendors as well as a list of suggestions for those who are new to hunts.

Remember we have a flickr stream set up for this hunt so feel free to post your pictures of gifts there once you have them ready.

Additionally I will be looking for an official blogger for this hunt over the next week and once I have us one I will notify everyone who that is!

So now that my work is done... since it's almost 5 am for me... I am going to bed and getting some rest then will get back to work on things when i get up!

Lets make this the most amazing hunt anyone has seen!!!

Happy Building everyone,
Rox

October 30th Update....Reminder...

Just a quick update for everyone, we have 25 spaces left before we hit 150 and I close applications. If we do not reach that by Nov. 5th we will close them with the number we have I am pleased with the size of the hunt already and am really excited about the great variety of items we should be for prizes based on shops.

I am trying to update the blog, send welcome packs, send group invites and so forth at least once a day. I have processed all applications received to date at this very moment. If you sent one and are not listed in the shop list, received a group invite, and received a welcome pack folder please resend it as it was not delivered to me.

Again please be sure your SLURL linked from the blog is correct. If you need to change your location please just drop me a note with the new LM and SLURL along with your shop name on it so that I can update the blog and the lm's in the hunt list.

If you haven't applied hurry and get me your application deadline is firm and I won't take them after the 5th!

Thank you to all the wonderful vendors who are taking part in this hunt!

Vendor Clarification....updated info.

There have been a few questions asked by more then one person so I am going to clarify a couple of things for everyone here...

1. If you got an invite to the Vendor group in world then yes I have your application, it has been placed in the line up for the hunt, and your slurl/shop should be listed on the right of this page in the hunt links. (I've finally caught up with all that I have received as of this moment!)

2. I sent group invites to all names listed on each application unless specified which one to send to or that one was for emergency contact only. You are not required to keep the group on multiple partners/alts however and may choose which one to have it on. I just ask that each location have at least one person in the group who is going to check notices for information as we go along.

3. Yes you are being added to the lineup as I receive applications. No one is being bumped further back in the lineup except those who I have spoken with specifically about being a starting point store. I plan to have starting points every 20 stops (with only ten after the last start point) to help in case the chain breaks and takes a short time to fix (we all have to sleep at some point!)

4. Thank you to those who have offered to help out with the hunt, it is appreciated and I am sure help will be useful I will be looking over the planning I did and where things stand on how they are working so far to fit that plan and see where help would be most useful. I will send a notice out in the in world group listing where that will be for those who wish to help out and have the time.

I will be sending out welcome packs with additional information and a timeline to all the vendors before Monday. We will cap at 150 vendors, which since we are already at around 87 I am guessing is going to be before the November 5th deadline for applications.

We have a great variety of some amazing designers in this hunt, I am truly honored that you are taking part in my hunt and thank each of you. I'm very excited for this and will do everything I can to make this the best hunt ever! I will be putting a hunt object together soon and once I have it will post images for you. I have been laying plans and watching each hunt I was in for about a year now and have set plans in place for a lot of what has been common in past hunts.

Happy Building

Hunt Application/Information

CIF&D and Secrets of Gaia present:
The One Is Silver & The Other's Gold Hunt!
December 5th, 2009 through January 9th 2010.
Application Deadline November 5th, 2009!

A bit about our theme:
When deciding to do this hunt I wanted to do one that would happen during the holidays to bring people through our shops to help increase our visibility during the busy holidays when everyone is looking for beautiful gifts for their friends and family. I put out an open call for anyone interested in sharing ideas for hunt themes but got little response in the way of ones that felt right for the season. So I went looking for something that would fit the feelings of the time of year without restricting us to holiday related items. After mulling over a few ideas and surfing the web randomly I came across a girl scouts website with the old girl scout song “Make New Friends” listed as a folk song and is indeed public domain. It seemed like a beautiful sentiment for the time of year that wouldn't lock us into holiday items that would only be useful for a short time.

NOTE: Hunt is limited to 150 spots max and will be ordered in the order applications are recieved!

Hunt Guidelines and Rules:

1. Only original creators no resellers, clubs, rentals, or copyrighted materials (such as art taken from the web) if it's not your own original work then please don't apply. Obviously use of purchased textures, scripts, and sculpties is fine as those items are sold to content creators for use in their work.

2. One location per store. If you have multiple shops with different names and locations you may apply separately but as I will be limiting this hunt to 150 stops max please give others opportunity to join us. I reserve the right to limit multiple entries from the same person if we get too many applications. You may include gifts from multiple stores in one package if you wish to promote these other businesses.

3. You will receive an invitation to the hunt vendors group upon acceptance of your application; you must remain in the vendor group. I understand group slots are limited but it is important to be able to communicate with the vendors effectively and this is the best option for that.

4. Gifts may be anything you wish to create, or if you prefer an item from your stock but please no freebies repackaged. This only annoys hunters to work to find the hunt item and then open it to find only stuff they could have gotten as a freebie without hunting. I was intending to do a jewelry only hunt, however, having heard from several jewelers who also do other products I no longer intend to limit it to jewelry only so the gift can be anything you wish to.

5. You do not have to build items for the theme, themed items are always welcome but the spirit of the hunt is friendship, if you wish to do a seasonal item for the time of year you are welcome to however, my intention was to do a hunt with items that would be useful the rest of the year not just for a short time during holidays.

6. If possible including a male item or unisex item is encouraged but not required.

7. Object must be no more then 30 meters from the point at which the hunters land. If your location is in a mall or location with centralized teleporting you will need to be able to put up a sign pointing them to your store. Please check with Mall/Market/Rental managers that you can do this.

8. The hunt object may be hidden however you see fit, however, it may not be hidden so that it is enclosed fully in another object, only a tiny bit of it shows, or is otherwise nearly impossible to locate.

9. The hunt object must be set to sell contents NOT a copy (which gives the hunters a folder rather then making them have to rez a box) and will be set to L$0 and no more!

10. Your gifts must be boxed/bagged before placing them in the hunt object. The folder given to the hunter should only contain 2 items, the landmark to the next location and your gift package!

11. The Hunt sign must remain up for the duration of the hunt.

12. If your shop moves or you drop out of the hunt for any reason you must notify an organizer so that we can keep the chain from being broken which only hurts other vendors in the hunt. If possible a day's notice would help to ensure we can replace the lm in the previous box. I do understand that sometimes even the vendor does not know in advance that the location is going to be suddenly relocated or vanish.

Application Instruction:

1 Create a new notecard and name it "Silver & Gold " (by creating your own notecard it will make it easier to pull up your profile by properties to send you the hunt object when it's time)
example: Silver & Gold Secrets of Gaia Rox Arten

2 Copy the following to the notecard and fill in the information. I am asking for both landmark (to include in hunt boxes) and SLURL (just in case sl glitches and wipes the landmark).

Shop Name:
Your Name:
Alternate contact or partner (if any):
Landmark:
SLURL:

3. Be sure that you included your landmark and the notecard saved and drop the completed application on the profile of Rox Arten.

Getting Set Up

Welcome everyone to the "One Is Silver & The Other's Gold" Grid Wide Hunt...affectionately known as the Silver & Gold Hunt. I am getting set up and accepting applications (will post the application info in a separate post) now for this hunt. Hunt will run from December 5, 2009 to January 5, 2010! So I want to start out this blog by giving a bit of info on the concept and on me. As a vendor myself I have been doing hunts since the POE one last December and have had some great and wonderful experiences alongside some frustrations in doing them. I have been in SL as a merchant/vendor/content creator for over 3 years now as well as a teacher and Dean of CIF&D. The original idea came to me to do a hunt as an organizer as another way to give some exposure to my students and graduates because I know how hard it is to get started and get your name out there. Hunts have been a wonderful source of new customers and friends for me so it seemed like something that might help them get a bit of footing starting out.

Taking on a project like this was daunting with all that I do already, so I spent several months watching closely how each hunt I participate in was run, how the hunters perceived it, and making lists of what things I felt worked best and which things I wanted to avoid and laying general plans for the hunt. Early in September I finally decided that it was time to do a hunt and that I wanted to do it for the holiday season both to let those participating vendors give gifts to hunters during this season of giving and also to get people coming through our shops in hopes of having them think of us or see items they might not have when they were considering giving gifts to their friends.

Additionally, while going through inventory I found that holiday items are bountiful and I am sure others have tons of holiday stuff from hunts too. So that in mind I wanted a theme that would not lock our vendors into doing an item that was only useful for the holidays. After putting a request for suggestions for ideas to my student group and the jeweler's group I didn't get any ideas that seemed to fit the feeling of the season and went looking for one that felt right. I came across a girl scout website with old folk songs listed... after much research on the background of the song "Make New Friends" it is indeed an old folk song and public domain. Thus the theme of our hunt was born.

First two verses of the song (in case your not familiar with it):

Make new friends,
but keep the old.
One is silver,
the other is gold.

A circle is round,
it has no end.
That's how long,
I will be your friend.
